How to know if your Mac screen needs replacing

Your Mac’s display is one of its most critical components. When it starts showing problems, it can range from a minor annoyance to making your computer completely unusable. Here’s how to know when it’s time for a professional screen replacement.

Visible Cracks or Chips

The most obvious sign is physical damage. Even a small crack can spread over time due to temperature changes and normal use. If you see any cracks in your display glass or LCD panel, it’s best to get it replaced before the damage worsens.

Dead or Stuck Pixels

Dead pixels appear as tiny black dots on your screen, while stuck pixels show as a single color that never changes. A few dead pixels might be tolerable, but clusters of them can significantly impact your viewing experience.

Flickering or Flashing

If your screen flickers, flashes, or intermittently goes black, it could indicate a failing backlight, loose display cable, or degrading LCD panel. This issue typically worsens over time.

Color Distortion

When colors appear washed out, overly saturated, or have a noticeable tint, your display may be failing. This is different from a simple brightness or color calibration issue — if adjusting display settings doesn’t fix it, the panel itself may need replacement.

Lines on the Display

Horizontal or vertical lines appearing on your screen are a strong indicator of LCD panel failure. These lines may start intermittently but will eventually become permanent.

What to Do

If you notice any of these signs, bring your Mac to Dr. Chip for a free diagnosis. We’ll determine whether the issue is the display panel, the cable, or something else entirely — and provide a transparent quote for the repair.
